Apr - Jun 2005...
This bike is a Harley Sportster that I had the opportunity to make 3 castings for.
An air breather cover, battery cover and back rest on the sissy bar.
The idea was to have a distinctive and consistent graphic across all three pieces.
The bike owner brought me a series of graphics and the image to the left is the result...
The graphic ist und Bundesadler, a Germanic eagle (or so we found in researching it...)
Air breather cover mounted.
The casting is drilled and counter sunk to accept 2 black end-cap bolts. The original cover is drilled and tapped.
Lock-tite would be necessary here.
This was a test casting that I opted to keep, but painted red, as most test pieces that I've kept are already black.
This is the final unit that was mounted similar to the air breather.
The back rest is drilled and tapped from the back and required a bit of fussing to mount as there is a back-rest cushion that has to mount on the other side.
In total this project was done over a 6 week period, requiring that the "Mount-Point" parts be here for 2 weeks to be scanned and patterned to get the basic shape of the castings, 2 weeks to arrive at a design/theme and lastly another 2 weeks to actually make the castings.
